Video footage shows police in Washington fatally shooting a man accused of throwing rocks at them and pedestrians.
According to NBC News, Pasco Police Chief Bob Metzger said that police were responding to calls about Antonio Zambrano-Montes, 35, who was reportedly hurling rocks at cars in the area:
Metzger said Antonio Zambrano-Montes threw at least one softball size rock and did not respond to the officers' orders to put down the projectiles. He said officers deployed a Taser, but that it had no effect on Zambrano-Montes.
The 22-second clip shows Officers Ryan Flanagan, Adrian Alaniz, and Adam Wright of the Pasco Police Department chasing Zambrano-Montes, then opening fire at him.
There are conflicting reports about the particulars of the incident. Although one witness told NBC News that Zambrano-Montes was yelling for police to shoot him, Benjamin Patrick of Pasco, Wash. offered a more detailed account to the Seattle Times:
Yes, he was resisting. Yes, he was wrong. But it looked like there might be something wrong with him. And he wasn’t hurting anyone. He had a rock, not a gun. It seems it could have been handled differently.
The officers have all been placed on administrative leave, and an investigation into the matter continues. Footage of the incident can be seen below, but be warned that it's graphic.
