Lately, it feels like there’s a new reboot announced every single day. Just in the past few months, there have been news about a Sister, Sister reboot, a Superfly remake, and potential Lost and The Office reboots. It might be tempting to drag all of Hollywood and the TV world for their utter lack of originality to the moon and back… but at least one reboot actually sounds exciting. Deadline reports Freeform has greenlit a pilot for a reboot of the popular 1990s family drama Party of Five, but centered on Mexican-American immigrants. Chris Keyser and Amy Lippman, the original series’ creators, are behind the project, as well as Sony Pictures TV.

The original family drama followed the lives of the five Salinger siblings, who grow up as orphans after their parents die in a car accident caused by a drunk driver. It lasted for six seasons and starred Scott Wolf, Matthew Fox, Neve Campbell, and Lacey Chabert as the four older siblings.

But the reboot will add a much more modern spin to things. The five siblings are now the Buendias, who must learn to survive by themselves after their parents are deported back to Mexico. No word yet on who is being pursued to star in the show.

Keyser and Lippman will write the pilot alongside Micheal Zebede, a first-generation American with Costa Rican and Panamaniam roots also known for writing on Castle and Devious Maids. Rodrigo Garcia will direct.

The news has fans excited about the concepts the reboot could explore, although some are hesitant about the new show. Will it really be able to top the much-beloved original?

Party Of Five is getting a reboot!!
I was talking about how much I love Party of Five and now they are rebooting it !!! YAASSS🤗🙂
I’m very excited about this! Let’s put this topic front and center! #DACADreamers #partyoffive
am I too old to obsessed with everything freeform does?
hoping the answer to that is no.
The Party of Five reboot concept is fucking fire haha.
I doubt they can top the original 'Party of Five' but I'm willing to give the Reboot a try.

The news of the reboot comes after a string of  announcements about other immigration-centric shows. Fox recently announced that it has begun development on In The Country We Love, a story of a young woman who remains in the U.S. after her family is deported to Colombia. The show is based on a memoir by Orange is the New Black’s Diane Guerrero, who will also star in the adaptation. In addition, Netflix and Sony recently teamed up to announce anotherOne Day at a Time, a reboot of the classic Normal Lear sitcom with a Cuban-American twist. The reboot will center around a newly divorced former military servicewoman raising her children along with her Cuban-born mother.
