Benderspink Options Image Comics’ “Turf” For Film
Gangsters, vampires, and aliens. Do you really need anything else?
Tired of seeing a bunch of grown men running around in tights every time Hollywood adapts a comic book for the big screen? Well in a bit of potentially good news for comic fans everywhere, Deadline is reporting that Benderspink has optioned Image Comics’ highly acclaimed sci-fi series, Turf, to become a blockbuster movie.
Setting itself apart from the typical superhero stories that have permeated the comics industry for decades, Turf is set in the 1920s and features Prohibition-era gangsters squaring off against vampires and aliens in a fantastic battle royal. It debuted in 2010 as the brainchild of writer, and controversial radio-host, Jonathan Ross and veteran comic book artist Tommy Lee Edwards.
Being one of the major production companies behind 2005’s A History of Violence and the eventual movie adaptation of Y: The Last Man, Benderspink has experience bringing offbeat, indie comics to life. Let’s hope Turf turns into the next Sin City or 300, as opposed to the next Cowboys and Aliens.
