Food influencer Michael Duarte, better known by his handle @foodwithbearhands, was killed by Texas police officers after reportedly threatening a sheriff's deputy.
According to TMZ, police fatally shot the 36-year-old TikToker after 911 was contacted with a disturbance report on Saturday (Nov. 8) in Castroville, Texas.
Medina County Sheriff's Office said it was notified of a "male subject with a knife acting erratically."
At the scene, Duarte reportedly approached authorities in a threatening manner after "multiple verbal commands" were given for him to get on the ground, and he went toward a deputy and threatened to kill them.
The deputy then discharged his firearm, and Duarte struck by two rounds. After he was given medical aid, the influencer was taken to University Hospital in San Antonio, and Duarte was later pronounced deceased.
The influencer is survived by his wife, Jessica, and their daughter. Among some of Duarte's notable dishes were southern recipes, like grilled alligator and smoked lamb, and he caught much of the game himself before cooking.
The talent agency that represented Duarte, Alooma, posted a statement on Monday, writing that Duarte was "much more than a client."
"He was a true & loyal partner, a trusted collaborator, and above all, a remarkable person," the agency said. "His passion, professionalism, and creativity left a lasting mark not only on our team but on everyone who had the privilege of working with him."
