'Star Wars' Virtual Reality Will Bring Us to a Galaxy Far, Far Away
Coming by the end of the year.
Star Wars entering our lives has been a blessing and curse. The franchise has brought us to a fantastic universe with lightsabers, the Force, and a grip of aliens and technology more interesting than anything on our lame planet. The problem is Star Wars hasn't actually brought us to this wonderful place, but that'll change with Lucasfilm's new partnership with Skywalker Sound and Industrial Light & Magic.
The three companies are forming the ILM Experience Lab to create virtual and augmented reality experiences in the beloved Star Wars universe. The first such experiences will come by the end of this year, possibly before Episode VII: The Force Awakens, USA Today reports. As we see in the introductory video above, we'll be able to wander around Tatooine with C-3PO and R2-D2 or pilot an X-Wing.
But it won't be truly lit until we can wield a lightsaber or shock someone with Force lightning.
