Everything You Need to Know About Sony's Showing at E3 2014

With rumors fogging the air as to wether Naughty Dog's magnum opus would finally make the leap to the next-gen, Sony confirmed that The Last of Us will be coming to the PS4. Dubbed, The Last of Us Remastered Sony finally announced a firm July 29 release date for the title. The remastered version will feature more high resoultion character models throughout the entire game as well as enhanced environmental textures. Just think of the best looking parts of the cutscenese from the PS3 version as the entire PS4 version and you're headed in the right direction.

After No Man's Sky quietly stole the VGX awards last December, Sony announced that the procedurally generated space exploration sim will be coming to the PS4. Developer Hello Games have created a title where literally every blade of grass, enemy space craft, and ocean is going to be created as players explore the universe. The trailer simply showcased how players can go anywhere and do anything in a universe filled with space dinosaurs. See that star waaaaay over there? Yeah, you can fly there. Just get in your ship and go. Watch the trailer and try not to have your eyeballs melt into puddles of techicolor runoff. Can't wait for this one.

PlayStation owners will finally get their first taste of cloud streaming games as Sony begins to open up its vast back catalogue of PS3 titles. Players with access to the beta will access a library of over 100 games. Those include Dead Space 3, God of War: Ascension, and,Ultra Street Fighter 4. Sony has stated they intended to further open up PS1, PS2, and PSP titles to PS Now users, but initially users will be mainly accessing PS3 titles and instantly streaming game demos. Still no word on price or policy for users, but a firm date for a beta is still positive news.

Game designer Tim Schafer has confirmed that the retro LucasArts title will be released as a timed exclusive for the PS4 and PS Vita. Sony has been in close talks with Disney about bringing the title to consoles after Disney acquired, then shuttered, LucasArts for $4.05 billion back in 2012. The Schafer title was originally launched back in 1998 and was one of the most visually influential LucasArts titles to be released. A neo-noir, detective title that takes place in the land of the dead was a darkly acerbic comedy whose fingerprints can be found on modern titles like the Telltale releases. This is hugely awesome.

Destiny will be bundled with a special glacier white edition PS4 console. The 500GB console will sell for $499 and will also include a 30-day voucher to PlayStation Plus. Bungie will also be making the beta for Destiny available to PS4 owners first on July 17, the alpha for the game open to PlayStation owners this week.

After Sony launched the PlayStation TV last year in Japan, the $99 television top micro console will finally be heading to the states. The console will allow users to stream PlayStation Now titles as well as enable PS4 users to remotely stream to a second television. This comes alongside the news that Sony will finally allow PS4 owners to upload gameplay captures directly to their YouTube channel via the DualShock 4's Share button starting later this fall.

Developed by From Software (Demon's Souls, Dark Souls) and directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki, Bloodborne may have offered the most haunting trailer of E3's first day, featuring bloody scythes, rotting zombies, and skinless, slobbering dogs. Little is known about the game other than the fact that it takes place in the "ancient city of Yharnam, now cursed with a strange endemic illness spreading through the streets like wildfire." Sounds like an old-school zombie title, but if we know anything about Miyazaki's style, this is only one part of the entire equation. We can't wait to find out more.

Slated for a November release, LittleBigPlanet 3 brings back Sackboy while also giving him a whole new group of friends. Known as Toggle, Oddsock, and Swoop, each character appears to have their own special abilities, making every adventure unique and equally unforgettable. As you'll see from the trailer, the forthcoming title invokes the same sort of childlike wonder as its predecessors, while upping the ante with co-op gameplay and an assortment of new features. Sony's most creative series is back in a big way.

Available in 2015, Uncharted 4: A Thief's End looks to be Nathan Drake's most bone-chilling and pulse-pounding adventure yet. Not only that, but it looks beautiful too. Running at 1080p resolution and with a stated frame rate goal of 60 FPS, the title will be a worthy chapter in the Uncharted series, bringing Drake into the next-generation of consoles with just as much flair as his previous titles. Of course, this isn't the same Nathan Drake you've always known. According to Naughty Dog, A Thief's End will take place "several years after his [Drake's] last adventure" as he "embarks on a globe-trotting journey in pursuit of a historical conspiracy behind a fabled pirate treasure." Not only is Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto V coming to PlayStation 4 (along with Xbox One and PC) but it's entering next-gen territory with a bang, offering recently-developed content including new jobs, player custimizations, weapons, and vehicles. The sandbox just got a few new toys. And if you had any qualms about leaving your PS3 behind, Sony also announced that all your old adventures on Grand Theft Auto Online will be transferable to the PS4. Conveniences like this should do away with any separation anxiety.
