A perfect mobile title that captures the current climate of NSA spying, data leaks, and the evaporation of personal privacy in a claustrophobic and conforming society.

While retro, 8-bit throwback titles may be coming close to over-saturating both Steam and the mobile market, Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP succeeds in creating an action-adventure game that sets the bar for retro-inspired titles. Capybara Games' title may be almost three years old, but the soundtrack alone makes the title a must-own for iPad gamers. The fantasy world draws on inspiration from the ancient worlds of Persia and Scythia to create something remarkably satisfying. Legend of Zelda fans, this one is for you.

Kingdom Rush: Frontiers HD is the expansion on the already gratifying first installment of the initial tower defense title. Frontiers allows players to control units, employ upgradeable heroes, and build ramparts that also offer massive upgrades. Strategy fans will alsp appreciate the charming art style as the story unfolds like a digital comic book.

A divisive addition to the list, Final Fantasy VI has been widely criticized for 'updating' the original title's in-game sprites. The result is an off-putting visual aesthetic that makes character art look runny and blown-out. Final Fantasy VI for iOS may have lost some of the charm of the original SNES title, but the port is still massively engaging in terms of narrative. The story of FFVI is one of the most enjoyable in the canon, and it's firmly in place here. The game's starring mechanic is the ability for players to manipulate time and slow down or speed up the wave after wave of enemy fire. The game's dope and instanly feels like a quarter devouring arcade title from days gone by.

One of the more difficult and frustrating titles on the list, Badland will force players to tap the screen to keep their Tim Burton inspired puffball aloft. Various obstacles such as mines, spikes, and giant-toothed gears are all trying to crush you and the clones you replicate as you make your way through each level. Threes! is a puzzle title that wants players to create tiles with integers which are multiples of three. The goal is to create the largest multiple of three possible. Players will add one plus two to make three, and from there combine two threes to make six, two sixes to make twelve, and so on.
