Netflix is closing in on a deal that would secure the rights to Knock Down the House, a documentary that follows the political campaigns of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and other progressive female politicians. The film premiered at this year's Sundance Film Festive in Park City, NV.
The film conjured a lot of buzz ahead of its Sundance debut and drew in multiple bidders in addition to Netflix, according to Deadline. Variety reported that the sale could have reached the $6 million mark. Among those who expressed interest in purchasing the rights to the film included Amazon, Hulu, and Sony Pictures Classics. According to sources, Amazon dropped out of the fight on Wednesday.
Cortez was expected to attend the film's premiere but announced that she would no longer be able to attend amid the government shutdown.
