A director of several of Queen's music videos says that a sequel to Bohemian Rhapsody is currently "being heavily discussed in the Queen family." And while that's nowhere near concrete, especially when you consider that there's less of Freddie Mercury's story to work with after Live Aid, it's also the type of Hollywood thing that would be unsurprising after a movie was nominated for Best Picture, won four Oscars, and (most importantly) brought in $875+ million.
According to a Page Six exclusive, citing that aforementioned director (Rudi Dolezal), the band and its management are getting behind the idea of putting out a sequel. In an interview, Dolezal said that he's sure that Queen manager Jimmy Beach (who was credited as a producer for Bohemian Rhapsody) is planning a second film that starts with Live Aid. Dolezal began working with the band shortly after that benefit concert, and ended up teaming with Queen and its members for close to 30 videos.
The band's guitarist, Brian May, previously hinted at a sequel, and said that there was more to tell about Mercury's story when he said, "I think Live Aid is a good point to leave it. Who knows, there might be a sequel," back in December.
While the "Queen family" can discuss the idea of building on Bohemian Rhapsody's success all they want, a friend of Rami Malek's told Page Six he hadn't heard jack about a second movie. That was also seconded by a representative for Queen's record label.
Also worth considering is that it took more than two decades to get the first one made. Hence the whole "rumor" tag at the bottom here.
