These days on television you'd be hard-pressed to find a supernatural series that goes for broke with creature design. Gone are the days of Joss Whedon's Buffy the Vampire Slayer, which on any given week could feature dope work from the makeup and special effects departments or a miserable, obvious man-in-a-rubber-suit fail. Either way, they tried and the effort was respectable.
As far as currently airing shows go, the series displaying similar if not equal effort is undoubtedly NBC's Grimm, in which a Portland detective (played by emerging star David Guintoli) polices mythological creatures known as "Wesen" on the side. The show airs on Fridays, so chances are most episodes missed your radar while you were out pregaming. Don't worry, we got you covered. Here are the 10 Coolest Looking Creatures on Grimm.

Simplistic, obvious, and yet skillfully executed with computer graphics.
The lion-design is simple yet features the least blatantly fake effects amongst most creatures on the series.
These days when most supernatural series do werewolves or jackals of any kind they mail it in with a simple four-legged beast. Props to the Grimm team for keeping it creative and daring to portray an actual honest-to-goodness werewolf.
The CGI for these rapidly rotting shrews can be touch-and-go, but the incrementally deteriorating technique is cool nonetheless.
This looks like the result of a bat mating with Gollum and yet we can't take our eyes off of it.
At certain moments the CGI effects for this reptilian creature are admittedly shaky, but the basic concept is simple and (mostly) well-executed.
This is about as close to a live-action Killer Croc as we're ever going to get.
The root animal of a Grimm creature is usually made super obvious in the design, so we applaud this more subtle black widow rendition, which manages to make the alluring Amy Acker terrifying and still kind of sexy at the same time.
It's a dragon. Do we really have to elaborate further on why it's awesome?
As far as creature design goes, Grimm features no greater success than this visually stunning saber-toothed tiger killing machine.
