Donald Trump's arrogance reached a new level during a campaign rally on Saturday. While rallying support in Sioux Center, Iowa, the billionaire business owner reminded the crowd of the loyalty of his base.

“I could stand in the middle of 5th Avenue and shoot somebody and I wouldn't lose voters," Trump said.

It’s the latest in a line of inflammatory comments designed to rile up the Republican frontrunner’s supporters.

Last December, Trump’s campaign sent an emailed statement that proposed a “total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States,” according to Politico. He also referred to Mexicans as rapists and drug dealers during his June announcement speech.

“When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best,” Trump said. They’re not sending you. They’re not sending you. They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.”

Trump has a reason to feel confident, despite the absurdity of his statement in Iowa.

A recently-released CNN/ORC poll found that 37% of likely Republican caucus voters would vote for Trump if the Iowa caucuses were held today. That is 11 points ahead of Ted Cruz, who is second in the poll.
