Today Warner Brother's announced that it will begin selling special App Editions of select feature films through Apple's App Store. Wait, what? A Hollywood studio is taking a proactive approach to distributing its content using new technology? Stop playing.
Yep. According to Warner Brothers, the App Editions will be a free download and provide:
WB says that the App Editions will allow them to sell hit movies in countries where Apple doesn't yet offer access to the iTunes Movie Store. As of now, it has put Inception and The Dark Knight App Editions in the App Store. To unlock the whole movie, it'll cost $12 and $10, respectively.
There's no word on whether or not there's any interplay between Warner Brother movies sold in the iTunes Movie Store and the App Editions. It'd be awesome if you could get an unlock code for the accompanying App Edition when you buy a movie in the iTMS. There's also no word if Apple's AirPlay will work with the new apps. We'll provide a full review once we download one of them and play around with it.
