On February 23, 1870, post-Civil War control of Mississippi ended, which allowed for its readmission into the Union. This meant that the Magnolia State had to drop its Confederate methods of discrimination, suck it up, and get with the progressive times in which, shockingly, every individual was deemed as equal. But today, the controversial history of the state remains in the past. Now, we can focus on more promising things the state has to offer, i.e. its gorgeous women. Mary Elizabeth Ellis
10. MARY ELIZABETH ELLIS
Hometown: Laurel
Claim to fame: After leaving her recurring role as the waitress on It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Ellis took a starring role on NBC's new Thursday night comedy Perfect Couples as one-half of the show's most argumentative pair. We wouldn't mind playing her opposite; crazy fights lead to crazy. . . make-up time.
Parker Posey
9. PARKER POSEY
Hometown: Laurel
Claim to fame: The quirky actress is most famous for her roles in films such as Best in Show, A Mighty Wind and Superman Returns. But it's been said that she was once up for the role of Rachel Green in Friends and Kimmy in My Best Friend's Wedding. In other words, she could've entirely altered American pop culture history.
Hayley Williams
8. HAYLEY WILLIAMS
Hometown: Meridian
Claim to fame: The Paramore frontwoman, who's currently dealing with the departure of two of the band's original members, has no reason to worry about her own future. Her hook on B.o.B.'s smash hit "Airplanes" proved that she's capable of solo success.
Nikki Griffin
7. NIKKI GRIFFIN
Hometown: Vicksburg
Claim to fame: You've probably seen her while flipping channels on a Sunday morning and didn't even realize it. The blonde beauty has guest starred in everything from The Young and the Restless, The O.C., How I Met Your Mother, and Entourage. Most recently, she starred opposite Kaley Cuoco in the straight-to-DVD comedy The Penthouse.
Leann Rimes
6. LEANN RIMES
Hometown: Jackson
Claim to fame: Lately, Rimes has been receiving a lot of flack for getting engaged to a man (actor Eddie Cibrian) with whom she had an affair when the two were both married to other people. With that stigma comes the snubs from Hollywood, but we might be able to empathize after seeing her cover of Shape (which even the magazine apologized for).
Keeley Patterson
5. KEELEY PATTERSON
Hometown: Starkville
Claim to fame: This year, the Magnolia State proudly lays claim to their own blossoming starlet: Keeley Patterson, Miss Mississippi 2011. Yet, the same can be said for Alabama, which crowned her Miss Teen Alabama State 2009. With her insatiable pageant-hopping, Patterson seems to be taking Miss United States pretty literally.
Brandy Norwood
4. BRANDY NORWOOD
Hometown: McComb
Claim to fame: Before her horrific driving accident in 2006 and her comeback on Dancing with the Stars last season, Brandy was a top-selling R&B icon with an equally popular TV show, Moesha.
Amy Wesson
3. AMY WESSON
Hometown: Tupelo
Claim to fame:
As a former top fashion model, Wesson twice landed the cover of Italian Vogue, was featured in the 2001 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, and was the cover model for the Smashing Pumpkins' 1998 album, Adore.
Faith Hill
2. FAITH HILL
Hometown: Ridgeland
Claim to fame: Given the shared megastar status between Hill and husband Tim McGraw's, it's safe to say that the two function as the Jay-Z and Beyonce of the country world. He's the guy with the music and movie empire and she's the hottest and one of the most iconic figures country music has seen to date.
Lacey Chabert
1. LACEY CHABERT
Hometown: Purvis
Claim to fame: Before she ever tried to make "fetch" happen in Mean Girls, Chabert started off as the cute younger sister in Party Of Five and went on to parody her co-star, Jennifer Love Hewitt, as the hot chick Amanda Becker in Not Another Teen Movie. Look out for the dark-haired knockout in two movies this year, neither of which have a release date yet: A Holiday Heist and Slightly Single In L.A.
