Priyanka Chopra Says Botched Nose Job Led to Her Going Through 'Deep Depression'

In a new conversation with Howard Stern, Priyanka Chopra reveals that her mental health suffered after getting a bad nose job around twenty years ago.

Priyanka Chopra reveals that a bad nose job almost ended her career.

The Indian actress told Howard Stern that the botched rhinoplasty caused her to go into a “deep, deep depression” about 20 years ago when she was around 20 years old, per TMZ.

“It was a dark phase,” she said. “I’d been signed for all these big movies. This thing happens, my face is completely different, and I went into a deep, deep depression. My father, who’s a surgeon, was very upset that this happened because he blamed himself. ‘Why wasn’t I there? How could I have had a conversation with a doctor, fixed it, whatever,’ and went down the rabbit hole of wanting to fix it because I was so depressed.”

She explained that heightened “teenage feelings” made her mental health worse. “It was like the rug was pulled from under me. I was thrown out of three movies,” she explained. “It was very embarrassing and I thought it was over before it started.”

A doctor recommended that she have surgery to remove a polyp in her nasal cavity. According to Stern, the doctor scraped too much and it caused her nose to collapse. She looked entirely different after that, which led to a decline in her mental health.

The outlet writes that the 40-year-old wouldn’t even leave her house, with her late father persuading her to get another surgery to correct her nose. “I was terrified of that, but he was like, ‘I will be in the room with you.’ He held my hands through it and helped me build back my confidence,” she said.

The Bollywood director Anil Sharma gave her another chance to act again, giving her a supporting role in a film in which she was initially supposed to play the lead. She has since appeared in other Bollywood and Hollywood offerings, like Amazon Prime’s series Citadel.

She later married Nick Jonas and the couple welcomed their first child together via surrogate last January, a baby girl named Malti Marie Chopra Jonas.
