Nearly six months after Verne Troyer’s untimely death, officials have confirmed the star died of suicide by alcohol intoxication.
The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner shared the news Tuesday following an autopsy and investigation into the April 21 tragedy. Weeks before his death, Verne was reportedly placed on a 5150 hold because he was believed to be suicidal. The 49-year-old actor’s family confirmed he was battling alcoholism and depression at the time.
"Verne was an extremely caring individual,” his relatives wrote in a statement. “He wanted to make everyone smile, be happy, and laugh. Anybody in need, he would help to any extent possible […] Verne was also a fighter when it came to his own battles. Over the years he's struggled and won, struggled and won, struggled and fought some more, but unfortunately, this time was too much. Depression and suicide are very serious issues. You never know what kind of battle someone is going through inside. Be kind to one another. And always know, it's never too late to reach out to someone for help.”
Verne, who was born with achondroplasia dwarfism, was best known for his role as Mini-Me in the Austin Powers film franchise.
