Hulk Hogan Is Pretty Confident He'd Win U.S. Senate Race

Hulk Hogan has no interest in stepping into the political ring.

On Thursday, the 64-year-old wrestling legend shot down rumors that he was planning to run for U.S. Senate in Florida. When pressed about the possibility of entering the race, Hogan told TMZ it was a “flat-out no.”

“I’ve thought about it, as of late, people calling my phone, driving me crazy about running for Senate. They want me to run for governor, they want me to run for mayor,” he told the outlet. “At the end of the day, I’m just so confused because it’s like watching the politicians, the Democrats and the Republicans, it’s like nobody wants to work together. It’s like a wrestling match, with two wrestlers that are supposed to work together and paint this beautiful wrestling picture. The Republicans and Democrats act like they hate each other and they don’t want to do anything except create chaos. So I really don’t want to be any part of that.”

Though he has no intention of running for office, Hogan is confident he would be triumphant if he did decide to pursue a political career: “If I run, I will win,” he said.

Rumors of Hogan’s candidacy were reignited earlier this week after Donald Trump’s former adviser Roger Stone announced he was attempting to convince the WWE star to vie for Democratic Sen. Bill Nelson’s seat.

“At the moment, I am more focused on persuading Hulk Hogan, whose real name is Terry Bollea, to challenge Governor Rick Scott for the U.S. Senate nomination in 2018,” Stone told political consultant Patrick Slevin this week. “At a minimum, I hope to convince Hogan to body slam Scott in every debate. If the governor is under the impression that his personal responsibility for $1 billion in Medicaid fraud is no longer an issue, he’s wrong.”

If Hogan had a change of heart and decided to run for Senate, there’s no doubt he would endure a rocky campaign season. Hogan has faced a number of high-profile controversies within the last several years, including the leak of his sex tape, which resulted in accusations of racism (he was filmed using racial slurs) as well as a lawsuit against the now-defunct website Gawker. After the site published a clip of the aforementioned sex tape in 2012, Hogan sued the company for $100 million. In 2016, he reached a $31 million settlement with Gawker Media.
