An Alabama church is calling its new gun range ministry "an opportunity for us to reach out in the name of Jesus Christ."

Because sometimes reaching out in the name of Jesus means reaching out not with your hand, but with some hot lead fired from a .357?

"Really, the whole purpose of this range is to provide recreational and gun safety in a warm, loving, Christian environment," Pastor Phillip Guin told UPI.com. "We wanted to come up with some different ideas to help our church grow, and we thought this would be a unique ministry to offer to the community."

So the Rocky Mount United Methodist Church in Jemison, Alabama turned the area out behind its sanctuary into a gun range and then turned that gun range into a ministry, a ministry where people also happen to shoot guns.

Here's the pastor explaining it in his own words:

Because Jesus may have said turn the other cheek, but sometimes you have to shoot someone in the cheek, or something like that?

Peace be with you.
