The reception to the latest Game of Thrones episode has been mixed. Season 8 Episode 5, "The Bells," has been divisive for fans for many reasons, and now a fan of the show has compiled footage from interviews indicating that maybe the cast is a little disappointed with how it's wrapping up, too.

The penultimate episode of the entire series is currently the worst-reviewed installment in the history of the show, with a number hovering around the 50% mark on Rotten Tomatoes. With some fans shocked at what they believe to be a dip in quality of the writing on the show, a YouTuber has highlighted how actors involved with the series and creator George R.R. Martin have been hinting at an impending decline.

Emilia Clarke in one recent interview, playfully called the final six episodes the "best season ever." Meanwhile, Jon Snow actor Kit Harington called it "disappointing" only to backtrack, half-heartedly calling it, "Epic, I dunno." Peter Dinklage also made his frustration at his character's decision to put women and children in the crypts despite the dead coming back to life very clear, remarking, "Tyrion, he's smart but I guess not that smart."

There's plenty of ways the clips could be construed, but when it comes to Lord Varys actor Conleth Hill, he's not hiding his feelings. Speaking with Entertainment Weekly following his death scene in "The Bells," Hill admitted, "the last couple of seasons weren't my favourite." He didn't hold back from there, either, explaining, "Last season and this season there were great scenes, and then I’d come in and kind of give a weather report at the end of them—‘film at 11.'"

A lot of criticism regarding the later seasons has been directed at the intelligence of the characters involved, and Hill echoed those remarks. "I thought he was losing his knowledge," he continued. "If he was such an intelligent man and he had such resources, how come he didn’t know about things? That added to my dismay. It’s now being rectified with getting a great and noble ending. But that was frustrating for a couple seasons."

Hill also opened up about the death of his character. "In retrospect, great. At the time, nothing could console me," he said. 'I kept thinking: 'What did I do wrong?' There wasn’t any pre-warning. All these famous stories about [actors on Thrones] being taken out for a meal or being phoned at the very least [to notify them that their character was being killed off]. This was just reading cold hard copy."
