At the A Day of Unreasonable Conversation summit on Thursday, Chrissy Teigen shared that her late son Jack died in a “life-saving abortion.”

Per the Hollywood Reporter, Teigen opened up more about the death of her and John Legend’s child, who they initially said died of a miscarriage at 20 weeks in September 2020.

“Two years ago, when I was pregnant with Jack, John and my third child, I had to make a lot of difficult and heartbreaking decisions. It became very clear around halfway through that he would not survive, and that I wouldn’t either without any medical intervention,” she said.

Teigen shares two children with John Legend, 6-year-old Luna and 4-year-old Miles, and said she had supportive medical care throughout the heartbreaking experience. “Let’s just call it what it was: It was an abortion,” she continued. “An abortion to save my life for a baby that had absolutely no chance. And to be honest, I never, ever put that together until, actually, a few months ago.”

I told you all we had a miscarriage because I thought that was what it was. But it was an abortion, and we were heartbroken and grateful all at once. It just took me over a year to realize it. https://t.co/x5XPu7pg2S

She said she came to the realization following the overturning of Roe v. Wade by the Supreme Court this year. Her husband pointed out that she’s one of the people who would have been impacted by the decision, which allows states to heavily restrict or even outlaw abortion access.

“I fell silent, feeling weird that I hadn’t made sense of it that way,” Teigen said. “I told the world we had a miscarriage, the world agreed we had a miscarriage, all the headlines said it was a miscarriage. And I became really frustrated that I didn’t, in the first place, say what it was, and I felt silly that it had taken me over a year to actually understand that we had had an abortion.”

Teigen made the comments during a talk entitled “We Made That Choice,” which was held at the Beverly Hills venue the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts.

Teigen recently announced she and Legend are expecting again. “The last few years have been a blur of emotions to say the least, but joy has filled our home and hearts again,” she wrote. “1 billion shots later (in the leg lately, as u can see!) we have another on the way.”
