Hugh Jackman has announced the death of his father, Christopher John Jackman, in a touching Instagram post on Monday.

Taking to the app, the “X-Men” star shared that his dad died on Sunday, on what was Father’s Day in Australia.

“In the early hours of Father’s Day (AU), my Dad peacefully passed away,” Jackman wrote. “And whilst there is deep sadness, I am filled with such gratitude and love.”

Jackman continued, writing that his father “devoted his life to his family, his work and his faith. I pray he is now at peace with God.” In the comments of the post, fellow actor Ryan Reynolds extended his thoughts to Jackman, sharing that he “was lucky to have met him.”

Back in July, Jackman fueled rumors that he’d be returning as Wolverine after he shared two Instagram Stories, including BossLogic’s Wolverine artwork and a photo of him next to Marvel boss Kevin Feige.

In an August interview with Jake Hamilton on Jake’s Takes, Jackman spoke on Wolverine rumors, saying that his time with the character is essentially “done.”

“I’m hearing about this from you,” he told Hamilton, “and there’s nothing in my inbox from Kevin Feige [which] means it’s probably, no matter what idea I came up with, not on the table.”
