'B.A.P.S.' Actress Natalie Desselle-Reid Dies at 53

Fellow actress Holly Robinson Peete posted the tragic news of Natalie Desselle-Reid's passing on Monday. "She will be so missed," Peete wrote.

Actress Natalie Desselle-Reid, best known for her role as Mickey in the 1997 film B.A.P.S., sadly passed away Monday morning at the young age of 53. 

Fellow actress Holly Robinson Peete posted the news on Monday. “Just absolutely decimated by this news...Actress Natalie Desselle, a bright shining star passed away this morning,” she tweeted. “I got to know her when my mom was managing her. She will be so missed...sending out prayers to her children and husband. Rest In Peace, Sweet Girl.”

Natalie Desselle the beautiful talented actress passed away this morning.
Natalie was a bright light. She was an amazing actress and comedienne but also an awesome mother & wife.
Sending prayers to her family.

Desselle-Reid starred in other classic Black films, including the Brandy Cinderella, Def Jam’s How to Be a Player, and Set it Off. According to TMZ, she died following a private battle with colon cancer. 

"Her diverse career touched so many and she will be loved forever," a post shared on her Instagram account reads. "Naturally, we are grieving and processing this profound loss and we thank you in advance for respecting our privacy at this extremely difficult time." 

After the tragic news broke, fans mourned the icon, sending condolences to Natalie Desselle-Reid's family.

There are so many Black actors who have made a cultural impact even if they themselves never become "stars." The fact that BAPS is still relevant in 2020, along with Brandy's Cinderella, all of which Natalie Desselle was a part of. I just hope she knew how much she meant to us.💔

Oh no, not Natalie Deselle. She was one of the first Black women I can remember seeing in movies who looked like me. Though she was billed as the costar for BAPS and How To Be a Player, she was the absolute gamechanger. My goodness, what a loss for our culture. RIP to an icon.
