The age of the reboot continues. The iconic 1984 film The Karate Kid will be returning as a ten episode half-hour comedy on YouTube Red. The film spawned three sequels, as well as a 2010 remake with Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan.
Original actors Ralph Macchio (Daniel LaRusso) and William Zabka (Johnny Lawrence) will reprise their roles for the show. Noriyuki "Pat" Morita (Mr. Miyagi) passed away due to kidney failure in 2005 at the age of 73. The comedy will be titled Cobra Kai.
The show will follow the story of Johnny, who reopens the Cobra Kai dojo, and Daniel, who, now successful, is attempting to navigate the ups and downs of life without help from mentor Mr. Miyagi. The opening of the dojo rekindles the rivalry between the two characters. Cobra Kai will be set 30 years after the 1984 All Valley Karate Tournament.
Josh Heald of Hot Tub Time Machine, alongside Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg of Harold and Kumar, will be handling script writing duties and will act as executive producers. Macchio and Zabka are also set to co-executively produce the show.

The show was reportedly bid on by multiple studios including Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, and AMC. It is set to premiere sometime in 2018.
