The new Marvel film, Captain Marvel, will open March 8, 2019, but it commenced filming Monday in Los Angeles.
A number of familiar faces will appear in the movie, which we already knew would feature Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury. Marvel Studios announced Monday that Agent Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) will make his return in Captain Marvel.
Agent Coulson was a mainstay in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s early films. He died in The Avengers but was revived for ABC’s Agents of SHIELD.
Coulson is not the only throwback who will re-appear. So, too, will two Guardians of the Galaxy characters: Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace) and Korath the Pursuer (Djimon Hounsou).
Brie Larson will star in Captain Marvel. She will portray Carol Danvers, a pilot who encounters an alien and becomes a hero. This film marks Marvel’s first female-fronted superhero tentpole.
Other stars who will appear in the movie include Jude Law as Mar-Vell, Gemma Chan, Ben Mendelsohn, Lashana Lynch, Rune Temte, McKenna Grace, and Algenis Perez Soto.
Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck are directing Captain Marvel, which is the MCU’s 21st film.
Los Angeles will serve as the film’s primary production home, but it will also shoot in Fresno, California and Louisiana.
