It's Friday, so we might as well take a deep-dive into a Daenerys-was-eaten-by-Drogon theory.

*Game of Thrones series finale spoilers*

As final Thrones season viewers know, Daenerys (played by Emilia Clarke) didn't make it, resulting in an emotional sequence in which her beloved Drogon seemingly initiates some mourning before taking her body to an unconfirmed location and, ultimately, toasting the Iron Throne.

One month since this scene that will haunt me forever. The way Drogon nudged Dany to wake her up and how he screamed when he realized she was dead... this mother-son duo deserved better 💔💔 I'll never recover pic.twitter.com/bY9KJl0Qqr

Less discomforting theories like Drogon is headed to Valyria and/or Volantis aside, another heavily discussed possibility in the wake of the series finale is that Dany was eaten by the presumably hunger-stricken dragon.

The Huffington Post even got a forensic anthropologist to share their insight on the likelihood of such a bummer-inducing scenario.

"Might he eat her?" Dr. Carolyn Rando of the UCL Institute of Archaeology told the site earlier this week. "Possibly, yes. I don't think we can discount that he was going off to eat her." Dr. Rando, described as a fan of the series, also added in some personal opinions on this theory, noting that Thrones dragons appear to have at least some understanding of how humans behave.

"And so [the dragons] see her as a parent," Dr. Rando, who also pointed to zoo-set studies on animals as an example, said. "So it was a grief type of thing . . . At the birth, it was the first thing they saw. The first thing they would have seen was her."

From there, the HuffPo piece moves into matters of the rare-but-does-occasionally-happen unfortunate circumstance of real world animals having munched down on owners out of circumstantial necessity. They wind down with a suggestion from Dr. Rando that Jon Snow be eaten instead. "He's right there," Dr. Rando said.

Looking ahead, we'll likely have plenty more years to come of debating such theories, as HBO is still very much in the Thrones extension business. One starring Naomi Watts, notably, bagged a pilot order last year and is currently in production.
