The end is near.
The eighth and final season of Game of Thrones will premiere in a couple of weeks, marking the end of the critically acclaimed pop culture phenomenon. The HBO series made its debut back in April 2011 and has delievered 67 episodes of epic fantasy content: knights, castles, dragons, and, of course, death.
But before the closing chapter begins, the team at ScreenCrush has put together a 12-minute video that recaps the most important plot points of the entire series. ScreenCrush's Ryan Arey provides some background about the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros, before delving into all the notable twists and turns. In the interest of time, the video doesn't address all of the characters who have been killed off because, as Arey puts it, "they're dead and they don't matter [...] Does it seem brutal? Well, it's Game of Thrones."
If you've never seen the series or simply want a refresher before the season 8 premiere, you can check out ScreenCrush's recap above. Heavy spoiler alert...obviously.
GoT will return to HBO on April 14 for its final six episodes.
Though details about GoT's final season have not been confirmed, showrunner Dan Weiss reassured fans he and his team were committed to delivering a solid ending.
"We've spent 11 years doing this. We also know no matter what we do, even if it's the optimal version, that a certain number of people will hate the best of all possible versions," he told Entertainment Weekly. "There is no version where everybody says, 'I have to admit, I agree with every other person on the planet that this is the perfect way to do this'—that's an impossible reality that doesn't exist."
