Jimmy Fallon was set to introduce a Congressional candidate on The Tonight Show on Monday night, when he received an unexpected blast from the past in the form of Dr. Evil.

Fallon did his best to seem totally perplexed by the surprise appearance of the Austin Powers supervillain, who was played to perfection Mike Myers

“Dr. Evil, is that you?” Fallon asked.

“No, it’s white Cory Booker,” Evil said sarcastically.

Dr. Evil was on hand to announce his bid for Congress on the eve of the midterm elections. When Fallon asked why he decided to run, Dr. Evil said, “Haven’t you been following the news? It’s 2018! Evil is in! It’s hip. It’s like playing Fortnite while slamming Tide pods and doing the Shiggy Challenge.”

He also admitted to wanting Brett Kavanaugh’s job, but Donald Trump thought he “was too even-tempered for that.”

When Fallon asked what state he would represent, Dr. Evil revealed that his secret lair is "in Rhode Island.”

It's nice to see Fallon get back in the political arena after his widely panned interview with Donald Trump. Sure, this was just Mike Myers in a bald cap, but Fallon needs to get his reps in if he ever wants to regain some relevancy in this fraught political climate. As for Myers, his most recent role is as EMI record executive Ray Foster in the Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody was a return to form. But if anything, the above clip just proves how much we need a new Austin Powers movie.
