The anticipatedΒ Star WarsΒ spin-off movieΒ centered around the fan-favorite bounty hunter BobaΒ Fett has reportedly been canceled.Β

Emmy-winningΒ journalist Erick Weber posted a tweet last night saying he spoke withΒ Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy and she personally confirmedΒ that the proposed project was now, "100% dead."

Kathleen Kennedy just confirmed to me Boba Fett movie is 100% dead, 100% focusing on THE MANDALORIAN #StarWars

Weber also said that Kennedy confirmed the focus going forward was going to be placed on the upcoming television series,Β The Mandalorian,Β a series that follows a lone gunfighter on his journey far from the rulings of the New Republic.Β

Rumors of a BobaΒ Fett film go as far back as 2013Β with no official confirmation on filmingΒ ever coming from Lucasfilm.Β LoganΒ director James Mangold was even rumored to have been tapped to pen a screenplay this past May.Β

The cancellation of a futureΒ BobaΒ FettΒ film can most likely be credited to the poor box office salesΒ ofΒ the franchise'sΒ most recent standaloneΒ film,Β Solo:Β A Star Wars Story. The Spring 2018 release only made $392 million worldwide, significantly less than the $1 billion plus the other three most recentΒ Star WarsΒ films have each accumulated.

As forΒ The Mandalorian, the live-action series executive produced by Jon FavreauΒ is scheduled to release exclusively on Disney streaming platforms in 2019. Fans of the classic franchise will have to wait until late 2019 for its next silver screen appearance when the yet-to-be-titledΒ Star Wars: Episode IXΒ is slated to hit theaters.
