Matthew McConaughey is taking a break from his serious roles like True Detective's Detective Rust Cohle, Interstellar's Cooper, and The Dark Tower's Walter to bring it back to his original stoner form. In 1993, McConaughey came onto the acting scene with a role as an old stoner who hangs around high school kids in Dazed and Confused. His character time around, Moondog, has the same vibe but he's thankfully hanging around people his own age.

The Beach Bum's first red band trailer introduces viewers to the eccentric long-haired blonde as he asks a store clerk whether or not they sell acid. "That's too bad," he replies when the store clerk aptly tells him they do not. Next, we see Moondog making out with women, writing poetry on a typewriter, hanging out with a snake while banging on a bongo shirtless, and dancing in the street.

The Beach Bum marks writer/director Harmony Korine's first film since 2013's Spring Breakers. Snoop Dogg, Zac Efron, Isla Fisher, Stefania LaVie Owen, Martin Lawrence, and Jimmy Buffett are also set to star in the film. Snoop even got McConaughey high while on set.

"I went to the prop man to make sure I have the prop weed which is like crushed oregano," said McConaughey on Jimmy Kimmel Live! "[During filming], we pass back and forth and all of sudden at the end he goes, 'Yo Moondog, that ain’t prop weed, that’s Snoop Weed.' I was like, 'Oh you son of a gun.'"

The Beach Bum is slated to arrive in theaters on March 29, 2019.
