Since James Gunn was removed as director of Guardians of the Galaxy 3 this week, few people have come to his defense, save for Dave Bautista, who plays the character Drax in the series.

Bautista took to Twitter on Friday night to write, “I will have more to say but for right now all I will say is this..@JamesGunn is one of the most loving, caring, good natured people I have ever met. He’s gentle and kind and cares deeply for people and animals. He’s made mistakes. We all have. Im NOT ok with what’s happening to him.”

A former wrestler and mixed martial artist, Bautista’s breakthrough in the film industry has been through Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy franchise.

Disney fired Gunn as director of Guardians of the Galaxy series after a number of problematic social media posts regarding pedophilia and rape resurfaced. Gunn issued an official statement after being let go, but the damage was already done.

The tweets were unearthed by Trump supporters and outspoken conservatives Jack Posobiec and Mike Cernovich after Gunn became involved in a Twitter argument between Mark Duplass and the Daily Wire editor-in-chief Ben Shapiro. Gunn helmed the first two Guardians of the Galaxy movies and was working on the script for the third movie. The first movie made $773 million globally, while the second made another $863 million.
