The sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming hasn't even gone into production yet, but there's at least some definitive information about who won't be playing its main villain.

Comicbook reports film critic Jeff Sneider revealed on a recent episode of the Meet The Movie Press that Matt Damon actually passed on the chance to play the film's villain. He didn't offer many other details beyond that or who the villain was actually going to be, so we're sort of back at square one as far as development goes.

The film is slated to go into production later this year, but it's still not clear who among Spider-Man's many arch enemies will make an appearance. There have been reports that a female villain might be included in the sequel, but she wouldn't be its central villain. It's hard to tell which Spider-Man villain would make it to the Homecoming sequel specifically, considering so many of them were still alive at the end of the first one.

With the sequel coming out next July, they still have a bit of time to decide. In the meantime, Tom Holland will reprise his role as Peter Parker and pop up in theaters twice before that, in next month's Avengers: Infinity War and the still unnamed Avengers 4.
