Acceptance speeches can be tough. Tonight, during the Golden Globes, they have been all over the place. Nicole Kidman dropped all kinds of bars during her win to start the show, but it's been kind of patchy, with a number of winners being played off (WRAP THAT SHIT UP, B!).

One of the most interesting acceptance speeches was from director Fatih Akin, who's In the Fadewon the Globe for Best Foreign Film.

For some reason, Akin, while thanking distributor Warner Brothers, decided to tack on a "warn a brother" reference to his acceptance speech. To no applause. In 2018. No, I'm not making this up.

"If you see a cop," Akin said, "warn a brother." Again, in 2018. If you're not up on the Warner Brothers / "warn a brother" reference, you obviously haven't seen those T-shirts with the Warner Brothers "WB" logo with the words, "If you see a cop, warn a brother" surrounding them. They were hits at Six Flags or any other functions where heads who thought they were being ironic frequented like 15-20 years ago.

Twitter noticed it, and was equally perplexed and amused.

Did he just say "If you see a cop.... warn a brother"? Bruh. I'm just... lost.
The director of In The Fade just made a "if you see a cop, warn a brother" joke and nobody clapped!!! throw the awards in the trash!!!!!!!

“If you see the cops warn a brother” lmaoooooooooo why would he say that?!?!?

Why would he say that, indeed. Did the joke just hit Germany? It's possible. I'm thinking, on the flight to California, he spotted some random traveler rocking one of those "Warn a Brother" hoodies, and figured: "I have my zinger for the Globes." He probably looked starry-eyed, and bae more than likely tapped his shoulder like, "What's up, Fatih?" And he was like, "I'm going to knock 'em dead at the Globes, bae! Just you wait."

Then he said the "warn a brother" joke. And bae groaned. And he probably figured, "Bae doesn't get my humor, but the audience will!" And of course we got it. It just hasn't been funny since we were... well, it's never truly been funny. Maybe next time, Fatih.
