Samantha Bee is just as frustrated as you are regarding Republicans' united attempt at blocking President Barack Obama's pick to replace Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia. Merrick Garland, revealed as Obama's pick last week, was quickly denounced by presumed Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles superfan Mitch McConnell and other GOP leaders despite his ability to pretty easily appeal to both sides of the aisle.
"Jesus Christ, he’s not a lame duck," Bee told her audience on Monday’s Full Frontal, referencing many Republicans' repeated insistence that Obama has officially crossed over into "lame duck' territory. "[Obama’s] three trimesters away from lame duckery. A president's term is four years. You can't say three of them are legitimate and the fourth is garbage." By Bee’s best estimates, Republicans are trying to hold out so Donald Trump can nominate a "pile of Maxim magazines."
Bee also notes Obama's effort at trolling Republicans "so hard" with his nomination of Garland, referencing Garland's recent support from Republicans as a possible choice to fill Scalia's seat. Amazingly, Garland had received a bit of GOP co-sign action just days ahead of being revealed as Obama's selection.
Though things are very dire indeed for the American political system in 2016, at least we have the televised sanity of Samantha Bee and John Oliver to keep us fully aware of the circus that currently passes for basic governmental functions.
