Universally, we’ve accepted the fact that the Star Wars prequel films weren’t any good. The Phantom Menace proved to be too boring to matter, Attack of the Clones boasted the beginnings of awesome fight scenes that were interrupted by exposition, and Revenge of the Sith turned a former queen and outspoken senator into a barefoot and pregnant plot device. However, in the midst of all the cinematic atrocities, there were a few bright spots. For example, all of the lightsaber duels.

Perhaps one of the best things to come out those films was a Sith by the name of Darth Maul. Donning a menacing snarl behind red and black makeup, plus that double-edged lightsaber, the mostly silent character left an impression that lasted much longer than the actual, allotted screen time. So much so that he made it into the Clone Wars cartoon series even after dying in The Phantom Menace, Yahooreports.

Now, a fan film focusing on the popular character is making its way around the internet. Darth Maul: Apprentice took about two years to make and, given the quality of the film, that’s understandable. The plot centers on Darth Maul fighting a bunch of Jedi while in Sith training and that’s about it. Honestly, that’s all you really need to know.
