When Ludacris wrote the song “My Chick Bad,” he was probably thinking about Amber Watford. The 28-year-old was arrested after authorities say she stole an Alaska State Troopers patrol car with her husband Joshua handcuffed in the back seat.
Amber jumped into action after Joshua was arrested for failure to attend court-ordered classes following a DUI conviction. The Associated Press reports that after he was placed in the back of a patrol car, a passing motorist hit up the arresting officer for some aptly-timed small talk. With the officer’s attention diverted elsewhere, Amber hopped behind the wheel and sped away.
Cue the Benny Hill theme as police searched for the criminal couple with the help of a helicopter and an Anchorage Police Department K-9, turning up nothing after several hours of looking. It wasn’t until a handy tip lead them to a home in Wasilla that the couple was finally in custody. They were arrested on suspicion of vehicle theft and other charges, including hindering prosecution and criminal mischief. The police car was found an hour later unscathed (the same can't be said for the arresting officer's ego).
Joshua remained in jail through Friday morning and Amber is no longer in custody. Her bail was set at $20,000.
