Netflix has continued to challenge the comedy thrones of HBO and Comedy Central with a slew of recent exclusives, including but not limited to Aziz Ansari's electric Live at Madison Square Garden and his forthcoming original series. In fact, Netflix has built such a viable platform for comedy that Chris Tucker was inspired to exit his state of semi-hibernation for the forthcoming Chris Tucker Live.

The stand-up special, Tucker's first, promises playful insight into the comedian's childhood and his observations on Rush Hour era success. "Before people started seeing me in movies," Tucker tells EW, "I was doing standup. It’s always been a part of me and now I’m excited to share it with my fans around the world.” Ted Sarandos, Netflix chief content officer, adds that Tucker is "a true global movie star and a one-of-a-kind talent whose remarkable energy, delivery, and original style make him one of the funniest comedians of our time."

Though the special's premiere is only days away (July 10), Tucker and Netflix are now facing a lawsuit stemming from the production. Comedian Terry Hodges has filed suit, claiming he contributed years of work to the special — including writing, editing, and producing — but hasn't been paid since 2011. According to TMZ, Hodges says that initial production on the new material dates back to 2008. Hodges estimates he's owed at least $66,000 and a lost producer credit. Tucker's attorney vehemently disagrees, calling the suit "absurd and completely without merit."

More to come.
