Nintendo's Next Console Won't Be 3D

If it's not glasses-free, then no 3D for the Wii on your TV. See?

None

Nintendo executives spoke to CNN about how their next console will not likely feature 3D gameplay.  It may seem like an odd message on the heels of launching the world’s first 3D handheld, but Ninty believes that a 3D is only viable if it's glasses-free.  Anyone that has a 3DS can tell you that it looks astonishing at the correct angles, but thanks to an extremely narrow viewing angle for that style of 3D, a group viewing experience just isn't in the picture.

According to Nintendo of America's president, Reggie Fils-Aime, “Glasses-free is a big deal. We've not said publicly what the next thing for us will be in the home console space, but based on what we've learned on 3D, likely, that won't be it." Sounds like we’ll just have to wait until E3 this year to see what crazy scheme they're cooking up next. This is Nintendo we’re talking about, so don’t be surprised if it’s an underwater gaming console or a scratch-and-sniff screen. [via CNN]
