The trial focused on Tory Lanez’s alleged shooting of Megan Thee Stallion has started.
As the Los Angeles Times and other outlets have noted, the trial is expected to last more than a week, with Megan said to be among those who will testify. In a statement to Complex, the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office said that it “expects to call the victim to testify this week.” According to Rolling Stones senior reporter Nancy Dillon, prosecutors said that Kelsey Harris is set to testify to seeing “her close friend get shot by the defendant.”
Monday also saw prosecutors claiming that Tory shot Megan in both of her feet after the Houston rapper made fun of his artistry, TMZ reports.
As reported last week, Lanez is now facing an additional felony firearm charge in the shooting case. As initially reported by The Shade Room and subsequently confirmed to Complex by a Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office spokesperson, a felony-level count of discharging a firearm with gross negligence was added to the case.
In related court documents viewed by Complex last week, more specifically an amended complaint from the State of California dated Dec. 5, it was alleged that “in the commission and attempted commission of the above offense, [Tory Lanez] personally inflicted great bodily injury upon” Megan.
Previously, Lanez was charged with assault with a semi-automatic firearm and carrying an unregistered firearm in a vehicle. All charges stem from an alleged shooting that’s said to have occurred in the Hollywood Hills area in 2020.
Meanwhile, the Gathering for Justice nonprofit has announced it will be teaming up with “multiple women’s and violence prevention organizations” surrounding the trial. The groups are set to gather at the courthouse in Los Angeles on Tuesday, Dec. 13 to “show solitary and support” for Megan amid the case, per a press release.
“We are committed to spreading the message that violence is not the answer. We know the time is now to advocate for victims of violence, particularly violence against Black women,” Carmen Perez-Jordan, president and CEO of the Gathering for Justice nonprofit, said on Monday.
