Drake wasnât quick to forget comments that Swizz Beatz made about him last year following a leaked Drizzy and Busta Rhymes track.
In fact, the OVO head seems to have taken direct aim at 42-year-old Swizz on the Certified Lover Boy cut âYou Only Live Twiceâ with Lil Wayne and Rick Ross.
âUnthinkable when I think of the way these n***as been actinâ/I never did you nothinâ and you play like we family, huh?/Next thing, you wanna shoot me down, it canât be love/Not sure where you was tryna send it, it canât be up/That day you sounded like a bitch, you fancy, huh?â
The lyrics can easily be seen as referring to Swizzâs wife Alicia Keysâ 2010 song âUn-thinkable (Iâm Ready),â which Drake wrote and subsequently remixed, and âFancy,â a track Swizzy wrote, produced, and appeared on for Drakeâs 2010 debut Thank Me Later. Drizzyâs âshoot me downâ line also seems to nod to remarks Swizz made last year following the leak.
In June 2020, Swizz labeled Drake a âpussyâ during an Instagram Live session with Busta Rhymes.
âThat kid is a good kid as well,â Swizz said. âHeâs not a bad kid, heâs a good kid. He started from different things, we made a hit record together, itâs all love. I just wanna play music. Because my filter is burnt. Because at the end of the day, n***as is pussy for real. Whatâs up? Pop off. Letâs go.â
Busta tried to smooth over the situation and explained to Swizz that the Toronto native wasnât trying to slight him. âI donât want to get it misconstrued. He didnât come to me to make a record with me. He wanted to do [J Dillaâs] beat. Dilla beats. Thatâs what it was about. Thatâs all Iâm saying.â
Swizz issued an apology that same week in 2020, which is when he made comments about shooting a plane out of the sky, explaining he was âin the wrong spaceâ and âin the wrong energy.â
âMy whole energy was based on something that got leaked that you couldnât put out no matter what the circumstances is,â Swizz said. âBut itâs cool. Thatâs a little kid. Thatâs a guy. Thatâs a little guy. ⊠Itâs no personal things. ⊠If it was personal weâd shoot your plane out the sky.â
OVO affiliate Chubbs subsequently responded to Swizz on his Instagram Stories, where he dismissed the apology and threw the producerâs insult back in his face. â@therealswizz We Donât Need No Apology,â Chubbs wrote. âIt's Clear Youâd Donât Like Us So Act That Same When You See Us. Pussy.â
