During a press conference for this year’s Pepsi Super Bowl LVI Halftime Show, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, and Mary J. Blige—who will take the stage at SoFi Stadium alongside Eminem and Kendrick Lamar—assured reporters they don’t have to worry about any NSFW moments of one specific sort.
“There won’t be any wardrobe malfunctions though, if that’s what you’re implying,” Snoop replied after an interviewer asked the performers if viewers should expect any surprises.
When told he needs to keep his shirt on, Snoop answered, “I may not.”
Dr. Dre interjected, “No, I had to talk Snoop and Em out of pulling their penises out.” After some laughs and a semi-mortified face by Mary, he added, “Especially Eminem.”
Of course, the hip-hop legends were referencing the infamous halftime show at Super Bowl XXXVIII in 2004, which was highlighted by the infamous moment where Justin Timberlake briefly exposed Janet Jackson’s breast live on national television.
All jokes aside, Dre maintained that fans can expect a legendary performance.
“The show will be fucking incredible,” he said. “Not trying to be egotistical, but who else could do this show here in L.A.? Who else could perform at the halftime show other than these amazing artists put together?”
When announcing the halftime show lineup last September, Dr. Dre called it “one of the biggest thrills of my career.”
“The opportunity to perform at the Super Bowl Halftime show, and to do it in my own backyard, will be one of the biggest thrills of my career,” the hip-hop mogul said in a statement. “I’m grateful to Jay-Z, Roc Nation, the NFL, and Pepsi as well as Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige and Kendrick Lamar for joining me in what will be an unforgettable cultural moment.”
