Producer and BBC Radio 1Xtra star DJ Target has announced that his recent book, Grime Kids, is being adapted into an original six-part TV drama. The series, which is set to be broadcast in 2022 on BBC Three, is being written by BAFTA-nominated and BIFA-winning writer Theresa Ikoko and will feature an original storyline set against the backdrop of the burgeoning grime scene of the late ‘90s and early 2000s as described in Target’s book

The blurb from the BBC reads: “Grime Kids charts the rise of a fictional group of young adults growing up in the late 90s, dreaming of being able to make their voice heard through grime music. Set against a backdrop of real events and cultural moments, Grime Kids reveals how grime, born from within British housing estates, took over the world.”

Ikoko added: “I’m really excited to be part of bringing this show to life. I hope it celebrates and cements the contribution of young people across the country to British history, art and culture.”
