Donald Glover is moving forward with plans to retire his Childish Gambino name, despite having just signed his first major label deal last week, with RCA.
Back in June, Glover announced that he won't be going by that name for much longer. Now, seven months and one Grammy Award win later, Glover told the press that his decision to end his 10-year-old moniker remains the same. "I stand by that. I’m really appreciative of this. I’m making another project right now," he said. "But I like endings, I think they’re important to progress."
Glover later continued, "I think if a lot of things had death clauses in them, we wouldn’t have a lot of problems in the world, to be honest. I think endings are good because they force things to get better."
Glover nabbed the aforementioned coveted award for Best Traditional R&B Performance for "Redbone" off his latest album, "Awaken, My Love!" He was also nominated for four other awards including Album of the Year and Record of the Year.
Glover started using Childish Gambino name after he randomly received the name off a Wu-Tang Clan Name Generator. Soon afterward, he dropped his first mixtape, 2008's Sick Boi. But all good things must come to an end. And if he's still making more music, that's all that matters.
