DJ Enuff has had some time to reflect on his firing from Hot 97, and he's now admitted that being at the station for 27 years was "too long."
Appearing as a guest on the latest episode of Drink Champs, the veteran DJ shared his real thoughts in the wake of his recent parting with the company.
"I’m gonna keep it a buck. I never said this before: I should have been left there," he said. "I stayed there way too long. I stayed there way past my time. I got too comfortable because it was something I was good at."
Enuff and Hot 97 parted ways on August 28. On the day of his last show, Fat Joe and DJ Khaled pulled up to offer some in-person support. "It’s sad," said Joe about the situation to TMZ. "It’s actually sad. I don’t know the politics of it, but the man been on here since 98.7 KISS. So he's been on Hot 97 for 27 years."
"You know, yesterday we heard fake news that (Funk) Flex was leaving, too," said Joe, referring to Flex's intentionally confusing announcement about the change to his show. "I don’t know what’s going on."
In an interview with TMZ, Enuff speculated that Flex was the reason why he was let go. "I’m off the air. It’s time fo ra new chapter," said Enuff. "I don’t think Flex is going anywhere. Flex is staying. He’s just going to a new shift."
Enuff added that though he can’t "prove" that Flex was behind his firing, he believed it in his "heart." "I don't deserve that from him," Enuff said. "He gave a lot of us the opportunity to do what we got to do."
Flex reacted to Enuff’s accusation with a post promising more info to come. "ALOT A PEOPLE HANGING IN THIS VIDEO! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 I JUST TOLD YALL DONT PLAY WITH ME! NO NEED FOR COMMENTS! JOIN ME MONDAY! WE CONTINUE COMMENTS THEN!," he wrote.
When his Monday show came around, he told his listeners: "TMZ could never twist me up to flip on my guy, I love him to death. I would never have anything to do — not just my brother. I would have nothing to do with anyone being fired or no longer here. You know why? I'm too hot."
Flex previously announced that he’d be moving to the 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. slot after Labor Day.
