Tory Lanez’s Lawyer Says He’s ‘Way Ahead of Schedule’ on Appeal After Sharing Photos From Italy Trip

Lanez’s lawyer, Jose Baez, says he visits Italy multiple times per year for a variety of reasons. Earlier this month, Lanez was sentenced to 10 years behind bars.

Tory Lanez’s lawyer has responded to questions about the current status of a bail motion, as well as his client’s larger appeal efforts, after it was noted that he was traveling in Italy.

Last week, legal affairs journalist Meghann Cuniff, who’s been a consistent presence in the media attention surrounding the Megan Thee Stallion shooting case, pointed out that more than two weeks had passed since Lanez’s lawyer, Jose Baez, said he’d file a motion to bail out his client amid the appeals process.

“No motion has been filed, and I’m not sure how much of a priority it is for Baez: He’s posting Instagram stories from Italy,” Cuniff wrote.

The following day, Baez responded via further IG updates.

“It has been brought to my attention that a blogger has claimed that Tory Lanez is not a priority because I’m allegedly in Italy,” Baez wrote in an Instagram Stories update over the weekend. “For the record I travel to Italy 2 to 4 times a year. I have both business interests as well as clients who have business in Italy. It is a beautiful country and a privilege to visit. This blogger has had a clear bias against Tory and has attacked everyone associated with him as well as made numerous inaccurate assumptions. In fairness to her, she has no legal training and has never worked in the court system, so her opinions have little to no merit whatsoever.”

In another update, as seen below, Baez added that he is “way ahead of schedule” in terms of his appeal process. According to Baez, the delay in filing is due to a court reporter having not yet finished transcripts.

“As for other motions, Tory is evaluating ALL of his options,” Baez added.

In a follow-up tweet, Cuniff noted Baez’s “unprofessional comments.” Meanwhile, on Instagram, she pointed out a prior email exchange with Baez in which he said he “always will be respectful towards you.”

Earlier this month, Lanez was sentenced to 10 years in prison following his conviction in the 2020 shooting of Megan Thee Stallion. In a statement announcing the sentencing, which had been met with delays, Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón highlighted what he called Lanez’s “pattern of conduct that was intended to intimidate [Megan Thee Stallion] and silence her truths from being heard.”

Lanez was found guilty in December of assault with an automatic firearm, carrying an unregistered loaded firearm in a vehicle, and discharge of a firearm with gross negligence.

Complex has reached out to Baez's office for additional comment. This story may be updated.
