“Sitting here thinking Bout how I went #1 on a experimental tape,” Uzi, who last week announced dates for their first headlining tour in five years, said in an Instagram Stories update on Sunday. “My apologies. … Barter 16 mixtape on the way. Free slime.”
See the shoutout in its original context below.
Uzi’s Pink Tape, the follow-up to their acclaimed 2020 album Eternal Atake, was released on June 30 after an extensive period of teasing during which multiple rumored release dates came and went. At various points in the process, Uzi urged fans to take solace in the fact that they were working diligently to provide a top-tier listening experience. The final collection of songs spans 26 tracks and sees Uzi covering a range of sonic spaces, including a take on the System of a Down hit “Chop Suey!” and a second collaboration with Bring Me the Horizon.
At the time of this writing, the Billboard 200 albums chart had not been formally updated; however, Pink Tape is widely projected to be taking the top spot for its release week. This would see Uzi earning the first No. 1 hip-hop album of the year while also knocking Morgan Wallen’s One Thing at a Time off the top of the chart.
In October, Uzi will hit the road on their Pink Tape Tour. See here for a rundown of key info including tickets, dates, venues, and more.
As for the Thug shoutout, fans will note that the two artists have an extensive history of collaborations between them. Among past Uzi and Thug pairings are “Strawberry Peels,” “What’s the Move,” “Got the Guap,” “Proud of You,” and “Hellcat Kenny.” The latter appeared on Thug’s Business Is Business album, which launched last month while he remains behind bars.
