On the eve of his new EP's release, Lil Nas X has served up "Panini."

Lil Nas X joined Zane Lowe Thursday on Beats 1 to discuss the Take a Daytrip-produced track, which is available for streaming via YouTube up top.

As X explained, "Panini" actually marks the "first song" he ever recorded in a traditional studio environment.

"'Old Town Road' wasn't done in a professional studio, that's the thing," he told Lowe. "It was never even mixed and mastered. Like the song that you hear today, it's not mixed or mastered. That's from the $20 bucks I paid [for] the rough mix. It was crazy, but it's like everything else, like lately in my life."

The track is also notable for introducing X to Nirvana's classic album Nevermind. "It's like, I always seen the cover but I never actually listened to it," he said. "And people was like, wow, he sampled Nirvana. I was like, no. It's like, I didn't realize I was using almost the exact same melody. I've been listening to it a lot lately, actually." The song, which interpolates parts of Nirvana's "In Bloom," lists Kurt Cobain as a composer. Lil Nas X gave his daughter, Frances, a special shoutout on Twitter:

The 7 EP also sees X linking with blink-182's Travis Barker, who gifted him with a beat that was originally intended for a new song from the band.

"He's given me many things," he said of his working relationship with the prolific genre-ignorer. "The most important one is he's always like, 'Buy land.' He's always like 'Buy land and try to keep your cash.' Just like little simple old school dad stuff. He's usually just goofing around the whole time. I'm like that, too. He's a g for real."

Elsewhere, X talked about his wish for Drake to remix "Panini" and teased his touring and full-length album plans. See more below.
