Don't tell Hanson, but Justin Bieber just dropped a new song. "Friends," co-written with Justin Tranter and Julia Michaels, sees Bieber back in Purpose territory with producer BloodPop. As expected, the track is full of sugary synth and sounds like a surefire radio smash.
As true Bieber aficionados already know, BloodPop has credits on a number of Purpose cuts, including the massive hit "Sorry" alongside Tranter and Michaels. BloodPop also recently worked on Haim's excellent sophomore album Something to Tell You, Lady Gaga's Joanne, and Britney Spears' Glory.
"It's hard to post/think about things that don't involve the insane hate happening in our country,"ย Tranter said ahead of the track's release earlier this week. "But I won't let them take my joy. This magical ditty is I co-wrote with my boos is coming later this week and I'm very excited!! [sic]"
The track arrives a month after highly speculative headlines tried to invent reasons for Bieber calling off the remaining dates of his Purpose World Tour. The only person who really said anything reasonable about Bieber's decision was a Mr. John Fucking Mayer, who offered some concise words of wisdom on Twitter after hearing the news:
Sadly, this has not yet resulted in a Bieber x Mayer collab album.
In the meantime, listen to "Friends" on YouTube above, Spotify below, and grab it on iTunes here. If those options don't work for you, you can find it literally everywhere else too.
