Ab-Soul wants fans to know “the six-year wait is almost over.”

On Friday, he rolled out his new song “Do Better” featuring Zacari. Per a press release, the track (production for which was handled by DJ Dahi, Kurtis Mckenzie, and Nick Hakim) is intended to serve as the first single from a forthcoming new album.

Omar Jones, meanwhile, was enlisted to direct the new song’s official video, available above.

“I’ve cried enough about it,” Ab-Soul says in the closing moments of the “Do Better” visual. “So I’m choosing to laugh now, ’cause I’m here, I’m standing tall, and I’m grateful. So that’s how I’m choosing, I’m doing the work.”

In a press release, Ab-Soul added in the aforementioned tease that the “six-year wait” was indeed winding down to a close.

As fans know, Ab-Soul’s most recent full-length project Do What Thou Wilt arrived back in 2016 via Top Dawg. Among the collaborators assembled by Soul for the well-received album (his fourth studio release) was SZA, who’s also expected to be releasing a long-awaited new project of her own soon.

Earlier this year, Ab-Soul returned with new music, first with the track “Hollandaise.” The song was followed with last month’s “Moonshooter,” which, like Friday’s “Do Better,” featured contributions from fellow TDE artist Zacari. “Moonshooter” was billed at the time of its release as a “warmup” for the new album, the title and release date for which haven’t yet been made public. According to Top Dawg, however, the album is indeed finished.
