Normani is kick-starting her own solo career in the interim of a hiatus from the powerhouse group Fifth Harmony, and she recently sat down with Hot 97's Nessa to discuss this promising new chapter of her career.
Nessa started off praising Normani's poise and ambition, and asking whether the singer was "ready for this work?" Normani insisted that she's ready to channel all the energy and knowledge she gained from the last six years of her career with Fifth Harmony into a successful transition to a solo artist.
The pair went on to discuss Normani's recent—and first official—performance without her girls on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. She performed the single "Love Lies" alongside her good friend Khalid. Before the interview was over, Nessa sneakily slipped in a question addressing some of the rumors that she and Khalid had been dating, to which she replied, "We're just friends. He's like my best friend," she said. "Wouldn't be a bad idea because I really love him a lot."
Nessa pushed a little further though, hinting that they probably would make for a good couple if not now then a few more years into their careers. Laughing it off, Normani said she was going to text him to tell him they were talking about this, but went on to share a fun moment the young artists shared during their Tonight Show performance.
"The thing is, we don't even take each other that seriously. Like, we were on Fallon, and there's supposed to be this super serious part at the end where we're supposed to look at each other, right? And it's supposed to be this tension. We laughed. Because we don't take each other seriously in that way. I love him so, so much but we're the best of friends."
