Takeoff Tribute Tattoo Might Break a Guinness World Record (UPDATE)

UPDATED July 9, 10:35 p.m. ET: The Takeoff tribute project has officially set a Guinness World Record as the world's largest tattoo artwork.

Artists at Atlanta Ink, Iron Palm Tattoos, and Pèse Noir joined forces to ink the 79 ft tattoo onto a giant piece of synthetic silicone skin.

Adjudicator Michael Empric traveled to the tattoo studio in Atlanta to measure and declare it a record breaker.

An artist from Atlanta may have the record for the world's largest tattoo thanks to a Takeoff tribute project he's been working on for the last six months to honor the late rapper

Earlier this week, Fox 5 Atlanta caught up with J.R. Outlaw, the tattoo artist responsible for the tribute. Outlaw described his project, which is being done on a large silicone sheet canvas, a larger version of the synthetic skin artists use to plan and practice their designs.

According to Fox 5, a representative for the Guinness Book of World Records will come to his shop this week to take proper measurements and determine if Outlaw's project is really the world's largest tattoo. 

"It is special to be able to create something that stays with people for their lifetime," he explained to the news outlet. "I just want people to reflect on him as a person and his legacy in music and in the city." 

He added, "Seeing it when we actually stood it up and took the pictures of it, and you get a feel for how big it is - that's when you start to feel the emotions come out of it. Like, wow."

Fans of the Migos were hit with a burst of emotion during the 2023 BET Awards, where Quavo and Offset reunited for a tribute performance to Takeoff. The duo performed Quavo and Takeoff's "Hotel Lobby" and Migos' breakout hit "Bad and Boujee," which caused guests in attendance and fans on social media to rave over the touching moment.
