A little over two years ago, Alia Rose was putting the finishing touches on her late mother Teena Marie's final album, Beautiful. "That project was my baby and after I didn’t know what to do, I had this whole idea that all of the things I ever wanted were going to just find me at home and I became stagnant," she told Complex over email. "I wasn’t doing any music and I was just trying to figure out who I was. I started dreaming."

She spent the next few months trying to make music, "but it just wasn't coming out." Six months ago, she headed to the studio and it finally clicked. "Some sort of force just came over me and it had shackles on my wrists and ankles and just like walking me in the direction of the cloud of the unknowing." Today, she debuts her first track, "Without You," which she says was the most natural. "It came together really fast. Farbod [Jamali] just started playing the piano and I just knew it was magical."

"Without You," she says, "is about being with someone and not feeling like you can go on any longer, but knowing that you have to do something to change it." The stunning track is premiering in full below, and it's off of her forthcoming project Peace of Mind.
